Icon A5 Update - No Deliveries!?!

I could be wrong, but it seems like Icon might be essentially selling airplane for SeaRey.

Icon A5 Update - No Deliveries!?!

Think about how much money they could make if the offered an "electric" version. They could double the price, take pre orders for 10 years then deliver something that only has 30 min of endurance (about as much time as it takes to single virtue), and the contaminate would loooove it! Money and...

LSA Weight to be 3600 Pounds soon !!!

I believe that the ranger is an S-LSA. That is an entirely different manufacturing standard then the other GA manufactures have to suffer under. That magic 1320 gross weight sticker probably saves more money and time then any sticker on this planet earth.

LSA Weight to be 3600 Pounds soon !!!

I would not be surprised if the Vashon usefull load goes up via paper work the second the light sport rule changes.

LSA Weight to be 3600 Pounds soon !!!

Is there such a thing as nit picky fallacy where a critic goes over board nit picking something that we all understand, as though he were trying to mix up a formula to cure cancer from the statement?

LSA Weight to be 3600 Pounds soon !!!

I want to stress that I am not in any way diminishing those of our brethren with sport tickets. A man in the air is a fellow airman, no matter what he has or does not have in his pocket. Rather, I am thinking about the segment of the population who for a time flew all kinds of really novel and...

LSA Weight to be 3600 Pounds soon !!!

If a guy says he is a light sport pilot, then we all know what he means. He is only certified to fly light sport aircraft. The total number of aircaft that can be categorized as light sport is entirely irrelevant to the whether or not light sport is a failure. I have 1 and 1/3 airplanes that...

LSA Weight to be 3600 Pounds soon !!!

It just seems to me that Light Sport was a total screw up, that was largely created so Cessna could sell Sky Catchers to people who were going to loose their medicals, with a dirty side ways glace at people who had been flying "fat ultralights" to get them some official standard training. The...

LSA Weight to be 3600 Pounds soon !!!

Now if they would just fix ultralights. Keep 103 as is for anything under 254. Then adopt the Canadian ultralight regulations as written for anything over 254.

That would be the glory that is the homebuilt airplanes forum. Now I am interested to learning what is involved to make trim tab based auto pilot.

I will take a manual flap lever over a switch any day.

Pops, what kind of servos did you use for the auto pilot trim tabs?

    75 % full KLM 777-300

I have buddy who is in Captain training now, so he is not holding a line. Like him, a lot of guys don't currently have a position in the company because of training all waiting for the ax to drop. The economic fall out from the cure is looking much worse then the illness.

    Foam ribs with plywood capstrips?

I started some foam testing last night. Glued up a thin ply strip to the edge of some 1" foam and block to hang weight. Hung 35lbs from it. So far no problems. I will do a peal test later. Not really concerned about peal though, as the ply cap strips will be firmly glued to wood at the...

    Foam ribs with plywood capstrips?

Wow! Thanks Bill. I guess there might have been a bit of Dakota Hawk DNA in the Woodpecker.

    Foam ribs with plywood capstrips?

Do you know if he glued the fabric right to the foam, or if he had capstrips? I would love any other tid-bits you learned.

    Foam ribs with plywood capstrips?

I think Brian on the Woodpecker video said he was cruising around 120-130mph with his foam ribs. Not sure about the wing loading. I think a bit of testing, and weighing are in order. I know a lot of builders seem to enjoy building up stick wing ribs. I do not. I have built one set, and if I...

    Foam ribs with plywood capstrips?

I think there might be a little over thinking going on here. The plywood cap stip to fabric would be done as normal with any Stewart systems installation on a similar type of aircraft. My own airplane type (as per the manufacture) has been gluing the fabric with no stitching directly to the...

    Rotax 582 Alternative Possibility

A Weber/Polaris 750 seems like a perfect candidate to replace a 582. Mounting holes for a PSRU, gearbox are already there. They even have a Turbo Version. Since it cant be inverted, I would like to see some kind of tall gearbox or belt drive, to get the prop up higher.

3M 30NF is will not eat the foam if it runs.
