Vacuum bagging for molded composite pieces...are there any decent training videos out there??

I'm a little farther along the curve than you but I agree a real practical hands on blow by blow treatise on the subject would be a lot better than suffering through a lot of unrelated YouTube videos and some texts I have. I have some industry guys that I call and lean on when I get stymied. So...

    CriCri MC-15 in NZ

Taking little breaks to read Hoerner is not how normal people live their lives :) How far from the fuselage did you kill off that upside down airfoil. Tricky one to guess at. Nice detail to mess with. Still kills me that you think like a composite guy but then use all the composite mold making...

    Wooden floor size suggestion please?

Are you talking about getting rid of the aluminum outer (bottom) skin? If so don't use wood in an aluminum airplane. If not lots of old airplanes use wood floors. They are one of those things that have to be replaced due to rot. Why not a piece of dragon plate or one you make yourself. Vert...

    Forum software updated today.

That refrigerator toppled over and sank into the swamp, and we built the next refrigerator on that refrigerator and it burned down and sank into the swamp... ... but the third one held... and all that can be yours....

    Forum software updated today.

That's what all the twitter types want now. Every device and piece of software has thrown usability out the window for the more " look at me PAY ATTENTION TO ME!" Style of interface. <curmudgeon mode off> I like hover to open up menus that then autohide. I do that on everything I can or that has...

    Forum software updated today.

Much better this AM. Still have the (2) in front of the tab banner but the icon is not Amtrak anymore. Sort of a WWW icon now. Lots of real estate of white eliminated and text way back towards normal. And I can now select text with a click/drag with the mouse... Nice!

    started soaring lessons today

The 2-33 is a bit of a pig. But it is super strong and honest ( I grew up around Horseheads, NY and new guys that welded and bucked rivets at the factory). If you think it doesn't have any roll rate you probably shouldn't try a 20 meter open class ship with a ton of water spread spanwise :) You...

    started soaring lessons today

Congrats. Nothing like that first pop of the tow rope leaving and than that calm feeling of not worrying about the motor anymore.

    Forum software updated today.

Guessing their development team is less than English as a first language and probably birth dates somewhere after the 90s. At least that is what is like where my wife works (in software). All because there are less of us actually using desktops and real keyboards and mice. Most thumb at...

Mobile on W10 desktop after what looked like an outage?

Wastes a ton of screen with mostly white back ground. Scrolls the content way down off the screen. Used to be you just hit a little triangle in the header to take you to the next unread content. That was working. Gone now?

Mobile on W10 desktop after what looked like an outage?

Looks like this now, giant text and lots of white like mobile interface. Also it has the AU Amtrak Unlimited icon in the tab in Chrome and a (2) in front of the topic name like it thinks I have 2 windows open or something. Some dial needs a bit of tuning :)

Mobile on W10 desktop after what looked like an outage?

Did the site go down for a while and come back up? I had a redirect to some Amtrak scam site. Then when the site came back it looks like the mobile version. Is there software updates going on? And no latest post button?

    Reducing drag on a kitfox

I stand by my assessment. Large tail and airfoil shapes are going to do nothing at cruise when trim drag is minimum. You are talking about high fineness ratio thin shapes not generating much in the way of induced drag at cruise. If there is a handling deficit then yeah why not if you have to...

    Reducing drag on a kitfox

Drag reduction contribution and accounting on something like a Kitfox at sub 100mph speeds is sort of self flagellating. I would think that weight would be more of an enemy on a small relatively low hp high lift design. Adding a bunch of weight to straighten out bad flow might give negative...

    Here's your trophy snowflake! :)

How far are we from the perfect electric "homebuilt" ?

Sparrow Hawk maybe. Eta, Diana maybe.... Basically it boils down to cruise drag right? I am pretty sure a modern sailplane can sustain on a small model airplane motor and 5 gallons of fuel for pretty substantial endurance/range. Seems when you get up near 50:1 L/D not much HP is needed. But 50:1...

    TIG, stress relieving

Most of the high volume welding robots I have seen use MIG without post heat treatment including aluminum, steel, stainless sheet and tube, thin wall and thick. It is all about what the designer intended. If there isn't factor of safety to have the heat affected zone stay affected then you...
