Plans/Kits for aircraft like the Monocoupe 90

My old flight instructor went to NJ back in, I think, the late 50's or early 1960's and helped to assemble some Jungmeisters . He was German and had flown one before.

Plans/Kits for aircraft like the Monocoupe 90

There is a soft spot in my heart for the Monocoupe 90. My first model airplane was a Cleveland Kit of the Monocoupe 90 with a 32" wingspan when I was 8 years old. I also was at an airshow when I was 15 years old and got to talk to the pilot of the Monocoupe just after his routine. The...

    Lift struts....

Or just hot wire some foam for the front and rear of the strut and epoxy on and then wrap with aircraft fabric and paint with a water base paint. The prices of those plastic steamlined covering is just out of this world crazy.

    Flight Control "Harmony"

I hate flying an airplane that fly's like you are driving a dump truck. Never flown a Pits S-1 , just a Smith Mini-plane. I like the RV-4, I hear that the RV-3 is better, but never flown one. My Falconar F-12 was close to the RV-4 but the ailerons was just a little heavier. After putting...

    Lift struts....

So you are asking what size , say aluminum streamline strut would be equivalent to the 4130, 1" x .058 round tubing. Do you know how strong the 4130 strut is designed for, 2 G's, 3 G's, 4'G's, 5 G's. You are assuming the plans 4130 strut is as strong as you would want. I would work the...

    Flying Car ?

I used to make pizza runs in my Falconar F-12. Take off from my field and land 8 miles away in a grass field within a short walking distance to the center of town. I would call in a pizza order and have it delivered at the end of the grass runway. ( I will be waiting in a white with brown...

Minimum Fuel Tank Vent Line Diameter

I have repaired tanks that was damaged from plugged vents when the tank was drained. Also repaired tanks where someone pressured it with plant compressed air of 350 psi. Lots of crazy things happen.

    Running CHTs Too Cool

I always thought about a sliding plate at the intake of the oil cooler box and use a choke cable to close the airflow on a cooler day.

What did you do on your airplane project today?

    Running CHTs Too Cool

Highest CHT's in a long climb at WOT on a 100 deg day is 295. Normal cruise of 2650/2700 rpm the CHT is at 265/270. Cruise anything below 2500 rpm ( to stay back with my neighbore Piet) and the engine runs to cold. If the OAT's is under 70 , I unhook the air to the oil cooler. The hot oil...

    Corvair gut check

My Cont-85 in the JMR is 188 lbs. That is with a block off plate over the Starter hole and the Generator hole for non-electric. Slick mags and Stromberg carb. To help save weigh I also replaced the heavy brass breather elbow with an aluminum elbow.

Magnus effect / Flettner wing etc.

Takes you brain longer to process a number than the position of a needle. NASCAR cars have all needles at 12:00 when things are normal. Wonder why one of the first indications of hypozemia is the lack of your ability to read numbers.

Steps to scratch build a VW

Instead of boring for the 88's you can install the bolt on 87's. Yes, they are thinner than the 88's and some people have had problems with them. I put about 100K miles on a VW bus camper with using 87's with no problems. My OSH runner for many years.

Steps to scratch build a VW

I think you are doing everything right and have a sweet running engine. What carb are you using ? What prop hub ? At the rpm's you are cruising at, it's really a toss-up between single or dual port heads. I would lean towards the single port at that rpm just because the lack of cracking...
