Why do you sometimes see homebuilts for sale with such low hours?

Ever notice quite often when you see a hometbuilt for sale its got very low hours? I always wondered why this was. Did the builder get finished and then was afraid to fly the plane, thinking it was above his skill? Was it the opposite and he was disappointed in its performance? Did he lose interest, money? Did it end his marriage? These and many things come to my mind when I see a homebuilt for sale with such low hours. What also comes to mind is "maybe there is something inherently wrong with that particular plane!" What is your take on this?
