I have been shopping for an experimental with the intention of flying it until I can build my own plane, but when I attempted to quote insurance on 3 of the planes I looked at, I was told they were not insurable.
Ideally, I want full coverage, but I am hesitant to fly without at least liability. I was explicitly told the engines were the problem, 2 of the planes had HKS700E engines, and one was a VW conversion.
I am guessing others have run into similar insurance considerations, how do you handle the insurance challenges of flying a plane with a non-certified engine or a rare airframe?
