He is using an Ace Aviation reduction drive. Mikuni carbs, two of them now, but he's also working on a single carb. Warp Drive or Culver prop. Aluminum flywheel if you need to drop some pounds. Plans should be out by the end of the year(?) for $50 from DIY Airplane Plans | Legal Eagle Airplane
His thesis is it's equivalent to a 30 HP 1/2 VW.
