I have committed to buy a GPAS 2180 flywheel-end conversion kit from a builder whose poor health stopped his project.
My plan is to add external full flow oil filtration and cooling.
Where should I tap holes for the CHT and oil temp probes, and what size?
Hoover recommended that the CHT probe s/b somewhere near the exhaust port, not under the spark plug, because then you would be measuring the temp of the spark plug, not the cylinder head. But where exactly and how big?
Hoover also recommended situating the oil temp sensor directly in the oil flow (?) and using a 1/2" NPT adapter. That would require a huge hole. The 3/8" NPT already measures 3/4" at its narrowest. I would hate to go larger than this. Are there good oil temp sensors that can be mounted with a 3/8" NPT adapter?
What do you folks with experience recommend?
Thanks in advance!
