I've been looking as much as I can for the last couple of days for this...is it correct practice to varnish under the steel fittings in wings (strut attach brackets for example) or to leave it bare and just varnish the structure afterwards?

Second question-in a wing restoration, when removing an aluminum leading edge when restoring a wood wing, if the nailing strips on the spars are good minus the brad holes, is there a proper way to dress those strips to re-attach the leading edge or should I replace the strips altogether?

Thanks,

Jerry
