In our automobiles, the gas cap is vented. It is for a very good reason. Such a good reason in fact, that it was demonstrated to me and my daughter on her 2010 Ford Fusion. The filler neck had a recall because it would not allow air to enter the tank as the engine burned fuel. Her engine just started to die upon acceleration.
How does this work on an aircraft? It can't be that the CAP is vented, because of the extremely low (negative) pressure environment on the top of the wing in flight. It would suck the fuel right out of the tank.
