So here's just another one of my "what if" topics - what about Heads Up Displays (commonly known as HUDs) for light aircraft? Imagine what you could do with that sort of technology; by adding a transponder receiver, you could hook it into every other aircraft in the sky, and layer a symbol over them to get early warning of where they are - or program in a 3D digital "race course" to fly through and time yourself - or have a visual interpretation of a glide slope that you can fly yourself down in 3D space, right down to the runway.

I know there was one technology that projects a digital readout onto the prop disc in front of the pilot - and there's the SportVue for motorcycles, although apparently it was crap. And of course there's been the stuff that's making it's way into cars these days.

Any body have any ideas about this? Possible implementation, wish list, etc? :)

EDIT: Just found this, only barely applicable but kinda nifty :)
