My plans for the VP-1 call for using Maple or Birch for a part. I can't find any Maple or Birch in my area, but I can get Poplar. Is Poplar a viable substitute for Birch? I did buy a nice piece of straight grained Poplar which I am forming into the part, but before I glue it in I need to know if its okay to use.

Thanks
