Has anyone tried making their own? For my small project (660 lbs gross weight) it looks attractive from a design point of view, but paying Grove nearly $900 for a bent piece of aluminium is beyond my budget. I did some quick calcs and the force required to do the bends seems to be well within my workshop capabilities. (20 ton press).

The usual material seems to be 7075 - would it need to be bent in a soft condition and then heat-treated or could it be bent in the hardened state without ill effects ? What about using 6061?

Any thoughts?
