Still a student pilot, and I'm starting to shop around for a plane. I love the idea of an experimental category plane, and have been looking at kits. But I haven't found "the one" yet.

Looking for a plane that's relatively cheap to operate (gph-wise with mogas or autogas), can achieve a decent cruise rate (120ish), can carry a decent load with full tanks (500lbs), and can land on grass strips. I prefer a high wing taildragger, but those kits seem to focus on low-slow-stol, which isn't the highest priority to me. A plane that cruises at 80mph is fun and all, but more of a toy than anything else.

Can you guys point me towards some kits or manufacturers? I was interested in Zenith, but looking at some of the build logs for their 701, 750, and 801 show that they can be a little sloppy in what they deliver.

Thanks
