    Raptor Composite Aircraft

Fancy title for the guy who did most of the airframe construction (since Peter seems to be averse to making anything that doesn't start as a plate of steel or aluminum). Again, he has made his involvement clear in this here HBA thread multiple times. Look for 'canardlover'.

    Raptor Composite Aircraft

Nope. The guy behind the Orion did build the Raptor, but was not involved in it's design. He was made his involvement clear in this thread repeatedly. His work is (the?) one part that ISN'T a problem on the Raptor. Don't tar him with Peter's brush!

    Raptor Composite Aircraft

The second flight doesn't look any better. It's getting scarier. Appears there's a problem with either the aircraft, or the pilot. The weather was gusty or whatever? That's on the pilot for accepting unfavorable conditions.

    Suggestions/feedback for new production engine

Seems to me that most experimenters willing to step out and take the chance on a new 'unproven' engine are also very price-sensitive. You may need to get a bunch of engines out there operating in the wild at a steep discount (beta-testers?) to build experience and credibility before those with...

    Liquid cooling

I don't think so. Britten's earlier bikes had a lot more aero on them, but the later ones ditched it - probably the extra weight wasn't worth it. That and he seriously injured a foot that got caught in the big fairings in a slide!

This. I'd done some comparative analysis of the two canard airfoils (digitally). The GU lift drops quite a bit when the laminar flow is disturbed. If the canard was built such that the shape was a bit different or the surface less conducive to laminar flow for whatever reason, you'd probably...

    Raptor Composite Aircraft

I think the reason so many are 'emotionally involved' that that we dearly wish that this project would succeed! We love airplanes and building them! But instead we're watching the world slowest train-wreck being played out on Youtube. It's a slow agony.

But you won't even notice the A/C load with '400hp+' available! Gotta cross that bridge first, I think.

    Fiberglass Fabric Question

I use a supplier that primarily supplies marine builders for powerboats and other high-end watercraft. Use the type for it's intended purpose (ie structures, not insulation!) and review the technical specs to compare with your baseline fabric.

If such losses were so extreme those parts would have failed long ago, shredding parts or melting from the heat generated!

Crashes in the News - Thread

I like that. And if you aren't honest back, you end up in this here thread...

    Raptor Composite Aircraft

It appears it took off like a typical canard. Difficult to make much assessment about it's handling from such a short flight full of PIO. Time to stop messing around near the edge of the sky where you can hit something (the ground) and take it up where a proper initial test can take place. He's...

    Celera 500L (was: More Vaporware)

Did you even look at the engine? I even provided you a direct link (click the blue words).

    Celera 500L (was: More Vaporware)

Per their info on the website, it is a single RED A03 engine, not two. And it looks to be a variable MT prop as well. You can put just about anything in a patent, doesn't mean you can or should or did build it exactly that way. While sometimes criticism is well deserved (*cough*raptor*cough*)...

    Celera 500L (was: More Vaporware)

I'm a fan of this method as well, but span limitations may push the optimum towards a more conventional winglet.
