paint removal from aluminum structual members ( Weedhopper )

I need to remove paint from most of the aluminum structural components of a Weedhopper. The paint is chipped / flaking off badly and I suspect the aluminum is not anodized so simply removing the paint, for the time being, would be fine with me. I may paint it again later, just 'depends'...

    transportation and material source questions

How much you're willing to disassemble it, and How far do you have to transport it? Well, sails removed, wings detached and furled ( rolled up ?? ), tail feathers removed and strapped across bed maybe, 'fuselage' cage / main boom upright in bed and strapped down. Engine removed and placed...

    transportation and material source questions

Have a couple of quick questions - Transportation - is it possible ( and practical ) to transport a disassembled Weedhopper in a pickup truck ? It seems I've seen pictures or heard of this done but would like to know for sure before I 'leap' !! ( I've seen a lot of pictures of & done a lot of...

    2 place ultralight

Thanks everyone for the information - it is pretty much what I expected - from a practical standpoint the answer is effectively 'no'. Similar to owning / operating a tank or an F16 - it can be done but it is neither easy, fast, cheap, or guaranteed !!! As for my underlying reason(s) - mainly...

    2 place ultralight

A question for those who know FAR more than I do and are FAR more up to date on rules regulations restrictions etc. Is it still possible to build and legally fly a two place ultralight ??? If not, OK - I heard that it simply can no longer be done - but if that is incorrect and it is possible...

    C Model Weedhopper

Thanks for the replies & information. I'll keep looking. I already have a brand new Rotax 503 DCDI with oil injection, electric start etc etc and was going to sell it ( along with everything needed to build a Falcon XP !! ) but from pics I've seen the 503 just might work out for a Weedhopper ...

    C Model Weedhopper

Just a question - If one were to build a Weedhopper from plans today, ( not that I would do such a thin - wink wink nudge nudge ! - What would be a good engine choice given that most if not all of the original engines used are no longer available or at least I can't find them ??

Airplane that passengers can sleep in -- know of any?

Maybe some passengers sleeping ( stretched out ) while you of someone else flies is important to you.It doesn't seem to matter to most others according to the comments here. You say you have to stretch your legs every hour or so - most people don't. You ask if sleeping or being able to stand...

    looking for a fishing plane

I know they're rare and expensive ( to buy, fly and maintain ) but a PBY Catalina would be IDEAL - except for the 'wind drift' of course !!! 1/2 or 1/3 scale maybe ?? Also, for some reason, fishing hooks and blow-up boats ( inflatables ) just seem to equal a Daffy Duck cartoon in the making !!

Congratulations. You have done accomplished relatively very few people ever do !! Let me also second 'an experience you will never forget' !! 37 years and I can still see and hear my instructor as he stuck his head back in the door and said - 'Do it right now, because there's no one there to...
