RC Pilot journeying to a full-scale pilot from NC

Used to go the the spring get-together at Lindville , NC for the spring wave off Mt. Mitchell. Go with my old instructor with his sailplane and I would work in the ground crews. Had a great time.

how is double ender going now?

With the high CG better have it slowed down the make a turn after landing. Even the first couple of years of the C-172 was easy to get a main wheel off the ground in a turn off the runway if not slowed down to a fast walk. Cessna lowered the fuselage of the 172 several times with shorter...

    Thread Drift

I miss what Toobuilder has. I built and flew the Falconar F-12 for 5 years. Cruise down at 3K was 150 mph and with a 2200 FPM climb solo and 1700 FPM at GW , I could get up 10K/12K in a short amount of time and get some good GS tailwinds. Remember going to work at 3 pm one day and mentioned...

Basic Configuration for a "Safe" airplane

John worked full time hauling skydivers in his Beech-18. ( my hanger neighbor). I was in the right seat when we went to a local larger airport to get the oxygen tank refulled. Just turned base from downwind he switched to the, he thought, fuel tanks that had more fuel. He really switched to...

Basic Configuration for a "Safe" airplane

On my first flying job, my boss told me to fly on one fuel tank and check the time it took for the engine to quit. Then you know how long you can fly on the other tank before the engine quits for good. I told him, no thanks.

Sidestick control vs control yoke vs panel-mounted control wheel

Makes sense to me too. Then when I first flew a VW powered airplane, for the first 10 or so takeoffs, I keep saying "Left rudder, left rudder", being so used to using right rudder without thinking about it. It's crazy world out there, I tell you.

Sidestick control vs control yoke vs panel-mounted control wheel

I still thing rudder pedals are backwards. When I was going down hill in the snow with my sled when I was a kid, I pulled back on the right when I wanted to turn right. Just like my zero turn lawn mower. But after flying taildraggers for 51 years, I bought the zero turn lawn mower and it...

Sidestick control vs control yoke vs panel-mounted control wheel

My daughter took her driving test in our OSH runner. A 1966 split window VW Bus camper. Had to parallel park and I taught her the technique and she put it in like a pro. Couple weeks later we went to OSH pulling a small foldout camper behind the bus and she drove thru Chicago.

Sidestick control vs control yoke vs panel-mounted control wheel

One of my neighbors has a couple of dozers and his son landed on the farm with his Piper Colt. They started mowing with the farm tractors and he got off the tractor and climbed in the colt to move it. He shoved the throttle to the firewall and then back out about 1/4" like he would do with...

    Trailer Design - Resources?

This is exactly what my I-26 sailplane trailer looked like. Towed very well. Why not some aluminum hoops and covered with aluminum sheets for an enclosed trailer. http://www.archive.jimphoenix.com/archive09/jimphoenix2/pages/trailers/subtrailers.html
