Suitable steel for all brackets etc.

Aft fuse is 1030 mild steel tube, cockpit FWD was fuse was only 4130. Think all misc fittings and brackets are 1030 with OEM. In my J5 could hang the airplane from a rafter by a single wing tank hold down strap :)

Suitable steel for all brackets etc.

As an example, reference the Fleetwings Sea-Bird from the 1930's made of stainless steel. Perfect for an amphibian flying boat hull design. First nuclear power plant I played with was 304 austenitic stainless for the reactor shell... as an experimental aircraft, you can use what you chose that...

Suitable steel for all brackets etc.

My short answer... YES. This link includes some basic properties, other equivalent names (e.g.: 304 stainless), scroll down and get to properties you can compare with chrome-moly. https://matmatch.com/learn/material/aisi-304-stainless-steel

How does a scale up affect airfoil center of lift?

Norman, I interpret this to mean that the differences in the grand scheme of things is within the resolution of what I can actually plot out on a fiber board to make a wing rib jig/template from… this is reassuring, thank you very much!

How does a scale up affect airfoil center of lift?

I love and appreciate all these responses. Remember the control wing as long as control deflection is limited to about 18 degrees or less is incapable of stall or spin. If memory recalls, about 22 degrees is where this airfoil breaks. If one does not use a collective lever plus a left/right...

How does a scale up affect airfoil center of lift?

Thanks Again! Used my office with big computer monitors so I could blow up my plans copy to "really-really large" and scroll across inch-by inch, bottom and top. There was only (4) cells I highlighted in yellow and re-typed to what I think it said. I believe the "x.xx" last digit was only thing...

Nerd alert! Airfoil Comparison: Modified NASA 65018 vs Clark Y, and NACA 23000 series

Dang phone… most else Older Piper, not most else in general….

Nerd alert! Airfoil Comparison: Modified NASA 65018 vs Clark Y, and NACA 23000 series

Truly a peanut gallery, but I was under the impression that the modified US35B Piper cub and most else airfoil was tough to beat for low speed carrying ability. Thanks for this thread!

How does a scale up affect airfoil center of lift?

I’ll have to catch attachments from PC tomorrow, but I really super really appreciate them! I have read much stuff on the internet, always with a grain of salt being a computer versus a book, fearing that something changes with either algorithm or flat errors with this specific airfoil. The...

How does a scale up affect airfoil center of lift?

Wow, can't wait to dig into this... thank you! You are very welcome. The construction manual and plan drawing are in the public domain, 4 .pdf files. Google "spratt control wing plans" and "speleotrove dot com" pops up if interested. Mid Atlantic Air Museum (MAAM) has the model 108 hanging...

UN hails end of poisonous leaded gas use in cars worldwide

Pristine denatured Fuel Ethanol at between 116 and 160 octane (not the gas pump R+M/2 anti knock index on a for example on US gas station pumps) depending on method of measurement is something to consider to prevent detonation when compression is high enough to create detonation. BUT, My 71...

How does a scale up affect airfoil center of lift?

Edit addition… think the museum plane is a 2 place, left pilot seat ahead for CG, but right seat near center of gravity like the 2 seat flying boats. Have not made it there to crawl over it (yet), but I want to build a 3 seat, liquid cooled auto conversion powered version, if for no other reason...

How does a scale up affect airfoil center of lift?

Thank you both very much! My question was answered that I can scale up to a ~30 foot span and 5 ft cord and the pitching moment (a new phrase!) will scale. Re: terrestrial planes, Mr. Spratt designed in addition to flying boats, at least three land based planes in control wing style (his words…...

How does a scale up affect airfoil center of lift?

Hi all, Planning retirement dreams, next project after cub restoration complete. I've tried the search function last few weeks, just not seeing what I'm after. Specific to George Spratt's use of the 23112 airfoil in his control wing flying boats and his terrestrial plane endeavors, he located...
