Wanted to purchase: Fluid Dynamic Drag- Hoerner

I have a copy of Hoerner's book which is looking for a good home. I will be 80 this month and can't see me designing any more aircraft. If you want to make an offer for it I will let it go. it's time to start winding down before the Kids throw everything in the skip. Postage may be a bit...

    The Plank Flies!

The engine is 33 BHP Bull Max single cylinder 2 stroke. The propeller is 1.3 M (51 in) Dia. A wing panel weighs 55 Lb

This video used to be the right way up but went inverted for some reason. You want MW10 Second flight which is still OK.

    The Plank Flies!

The wings are removable and plug into the fuselage glider style. Alternatively as you say, the aircraft could be wheeled into the hanger sideways on a trolly. The wingspan is only 23 Ft. No plans to make them fold.

    The Plank Flies!

Erkki Although not as good as a conventional aircraft, the modified rudders are more effective. I could increase the size a bit more, but i am not contemplating a major redesign at the moment. the aircraft has a sturdy main undercarriage and can stand a touch down with some side drift, like...

Under fins. A friend built a 1/4 scale RC model of the MW9, to see if there were any nasty characteristics inherent in the design. This had fins extending above the wing and none below. Flight tests showed that at low speed with full up elevator the model developed Dutch roll, with an...

Erkki My plank from its early days of its construction is detailed in the HBA thread. Characteristics of a straight-wing, tailless model in the Langley free-flight tunnel If you go to P7 further down is an article by AL Backstrom on basic plank design, which I found very useful. Jim Marske...

Like many of the previous posts I looked at the Opal when designing the MW9 while reading many of the posts on HBA. The many reports of people observing PIO's and from photographs, the aerofoil did not appear to have any reflex, although it was said the aerofoil was bi convex, like many others...

Flying wing as cheap and simple option for basic fun flying.

Not me, Too windy. The pilot was the great Eddie Clapham who has done the test flying on most of my aircraft. The LAA chief test pilot who is a professional TP also flew the aircraft. Both thought it flew well. Just a few more tweaks needed. I will add the test reports when I receive them.

Best Bang for the Buck STOL

I am mainly an airframe man. The engine is just a weight and thrust to me. Eddie Clapham an ex Rolls Royce engineer is the engine expert. Eddie has been test pilot on most of my designs including the present Plank aircraft. The power to weight ratio of four stroke engines is usually worst...
