Bubble canopies can be next to impossible to exit in a turnover situation. I know of one RV-6 that turned over and she had to be rescued by airport personnel. I'm working on a MFI-9HB, a homebuilt Bolkow Jr and am beginning work on the canopy structure using Cygnet design features. The Cygnet...

    Cygnet news

I like the Cygnet canopy clamshell canopy and was wondering if it is made of Lexan which is very flexible and therefore a flap wrap. (no compound curves) Benefits are low cost and easier emergency egress. Anyone have info on this?

My Safety Concerns About Bubble Canopies

Ron Wanttaja publishes accident statistics in depth so would be interesting to hear his opinion on bubble canopy safety.

My Safety Concerns About Bubble Canopies

Very interesting discussion on canopies that I've thought about for a long time but never heard it discussed in depth. Another factor is that canopies made from Lexan when drilled will not crack and in fact can be bent 90 degrees without breaking, therefore almost impossible to exit in a...

My plans came with a partially finished MFI-9HB from a fellow in Arizona. The plans were not very complete but I ordered a set on a thumb drive which were complete. I would never attempt to build one from scratch. Originally they came as a partial kit with some welding and hard to make...

Cutting 4130 sheet on a Table Saw

I've been making steel wing strut fittings using my bandsaw in the horizontal position for straight cuts both vertical and horizontal. I used a small portable vice clamping it in place. The strut fittings are only 2" long by1 1/4" steel rod. Works good with careful measuring.

    MFI-9HB Junior Plans Wanted

My MFI-9HB is about 90% done with 40% remaining as the saying goes. The fusilage and empanage is complete but the wings although built need some work to correct mistakes done by previous owner. I have been looking for a source of canopies. Do you have a source for one?

    MFI-9HB Junior Plans Wanted

The problem I'm having now is sourcing a canopy for the MFI-9HB or the certified version Bolkow Jr. The plans have no info like contour drawings and most people have never heard of an MFI-9HB.

    MFI-9HB Junior Plans Wanted

I wondered if that was a legal source too but ordered anyway. I have the hard copy of the plans but they had many sheets missing. These plans may not be legally sold but they are accurate and only on thumb drive. This airplane would be difficult to build from plans only. I bought a partly...
