    Pietenpol Air Camper Build Log

Oh man, its been awhile. Life has a way of really throwin a wrench in things. This project is still on course but I've been pulled away for a bit. Hopefully in the next few months I'll have some progress to share. In the mean while, I've been doing more CAD work and pouring over the plans. I'm...

    Evans VP-1... Worth Building?

Hey Fritz, I did, thanks! I bought the combo/bundle that includes them all from https://www.pietenpolaircraftcompany.com/purchase-pietenpol-air-camper-plans-and-aircraft-kits. I figured even if I don't necessarily need it, I want to see, read, and understand all the options and variants.

    Pietenpol Air Camper Build Log

While I was busy making CAD models for the Pietenpol, I decided to 3D Print one at 1/20th scale to sit on my desk for motivation!

    Pietenpol Air Camper Build Log

Plans have been ordered, benches cleared off, probably going to start with the ribs this winter. I have a great many other things to do which require my time and money but I figure if I get a process going in the evenings of cutting spruce, soaking spars, and gluing parts in jigs, I might have a...

    Evans VP-1... Worth Building?

Good point, that was kind of what I was thinking about actually, if I wanted to get started "right now" I can't, cause I don't have any material! Gonna make a shopping list for wood and steel.

True. That would be a good place to start.

    Pietenpol Air Camper Build Log

Well the decision has been made, I think its time to build a Pietenpol. The plan is to go with a welded steel fuselage and modified Corvair engine for power. Seen a lot of great examples out there and they seem to fly extremely well and have a long track record of success. Eric

    Evans VP-1... Worth Building?

That's true, I've seen some amazing footage from the cockpit on YouTube and I've also seen a video showing someone trying to get in up front... hehe, it was a "maneuver" to get it to say the least, but hey, its possible! Edit: Here it is

Yess!! Haha, ok I'll definitely start a thread for it.

    Evans VP-1... Worth Building?

A good question, and I think I'm much like you in that I love building and making things (made countless R/C models from scratch) and the VP definitely fits the bill for quick build, affordable, and seems to fly really well. But that last bit is spot on... while I do like the VPs and I'd...

    Evans VP-1... Worth Building?

Yea I started it with the question of a VP-1 being worth pursuing, but I also am very interested in other alternatives, both LSA and Part 103. Only specific thing I want is to be able to build it from plans and that it can break down for trailering/storage. Lots of awesome suggestions here and I...

    Evans VP-1... Worth Building?

That's pretty cool, I was wondering if you could just scale down a Pietenpol for Part 103... :D

    Evans VP-1... Worth Building?

I think these Pietenpols are really neat too and fit a lot of the requirements I'm looking for, but I'm not sure about the wing removal/folding. Its definitely a classic though and looks like fun, I like the two seats, and it seems like it would be affordable. Edit: Looks like its a 3 piece...

    Evans VP-1... Worth Building?

Any material is fine by me, and configuration doesn't matter too much as long as it meets LSA requirements. Nice list, haven't seen many of those, thanks!
