What did you do on your airplane project today?

I spent some quality time with cardboard and foam working on templates for the bulkhead for a header tank to attach to, measuring and making a pattern for the header tank, and some other interior panels that need to be made soon.

    Need input RE: flight instructor

Pretty much agree here. I should make a couple of notes though- My plan is to take a familiarization flight, and maybe a lesson or maybe a few in a glider to work on rudder control and build in some good habits. I know it is different but I relate it to the way we will put a driver that has...

Unfortunately that fellow only does tailwheel and unusual attitude/spin recovery.

    Need input RE: flight instructor

I am going to try and get some dual in a Citabria in the near future for tailwheel, as this same thing has been expressed by many other folks.

Another engine theory Q - Blowers?

When I started down the EFI path for my flight engines I Immediately wanted redundancy on everything. Then I did not. First and foremost is that the complexity and added weight in sensors, brackets, wiring, ECU, batteries, etc. got really interesting really fast. Then I started paring down. If...

Another engine theory Q - Blowers?

Mmmm....I dislike OEM systems for the most part, but GM is kinder than most. My least favorite was the "multi layer adaptive" architecture used by Ford, Subaru and some others that will gradually negate any change, and VWs nightmare ecus that go into limp mode if the back door sensors are...

Another engine theory Q - Blowers?

I like where your head is at. Let me help you a bit. The following information is what I would do, but note that I in no way am telling a grown man capable of making his own decisions what to do, or how to do it. I am starting with all brand new parts- case, crank, rods, pistons etc., no used...

    Need input RE: flight instructor

The last two days of flying have been pretty good. It has been a few weeks since I have been able to get up due to weather and scheduling, but I got up for about 1.6 each day. Thursday was just OK. I felt a little out of practice but my takeoffs, holding speeds and headings, stalls, etc. were...

    What Did You Fly Today?

I flew the Cherokee the last two days for about 1.6 each day. Had not been up for a few weeks due to weather and scheduling. Yesterday was a very good day of flying for me.

Another engine theory Q - Blowers?

Ok So here we go, and I do not consider this to be thread drift since the OP could use this information to reach thier goals. We will start with the cylinder head. The intake, combustion chamber, and exhaust port were coated with a thermal barrier coating, this is post port work but...

Another engine theory Q - Blowers?

I'm saying carbs stick and having manual mixture control based on egt leads to a lot of misconceptions when parts fail.

Another engine theory Q - Blowers?

As an interesting aside, the shop I worked for in North Carolina actually had a couple of the heads worked by Electramotive in the shop for repair. My employer at that time was a cyl head "guru" and the heads had been sent to him for failure analysis as well as suggestions to improve them. The...

    My 13B engine configuration (tentative)

The 13B I have sitting in the warehouse is simply not capable of producing 160hp. The biggest problem is the exhaust they installed. The engine in OEM form made 146hp if you believe the manual. Put the must more restrictive exhaust on it and I would expect this motor to struggle to make 120, if...
