    Defend Raptor

And that came with all the consequences you would expect: drag. Any airplane manufacturer could make a 5-seat plane with a 60"+ cabin if they want. They just don't because they understand the performance hit isn't gonna be worth the room. Better to just make the plane longer and add a 3rd row if...

Flying wing as cheap and simple option for basic fun flying.

My main concern with this would be fault tolerance. If we're talking about something cheap and simple, how do you design the detach mechanism in such a way that your inexperienced home builder can't screw it up? Also, how much cost would this add? Does the passenger harm reduction in a crash...

How would you lower the build time?

Thanks. Pretty much exactly what I wanted to know

How would you lower the build time?

When I said sub-optimal what I meant was a design that didn't meet the designer's goals when there was already some other way he could have designed it that would have. I'm actually really interested in your plane. Read through the whole build thread, read several of your recent comments in...

How would you lower the build time?

I've seen this mentioned a few times on this forum that if you build with composites but use it as "black aluminum" then you end up with a very sub-optimal design. Are there any guides/books that explain how to design airframes with composites correctly, give examples of incorrect methods, etc...

    Another Canard Dream...

Oh, I see now. I was thinking you were trying to compute for the 230 knot "eco-cruise" they quote on their website. The numbers make sense now. His numbers are actually based on a cruise at FL250. The plan is to build the aircraft to have 5.5PSI of pressurization, which would certainly make an...

Where's the 83.7HP figure from? Was it derived from that quoted BSFC and the chart from earlier in the thread that you would need 150HP to cruise at 230 knots? I realized if you accidentally converted backwards (1HP = 1.35kw instead of the other way around), you would arrive at 83.7 instead of...

    Another Canard Dream...

Here's what I like about the project: - He's taking a Velocity, a known plane with good performance numbers, and enlarging it, pressurizing it, and adding a turbo diesel. The combination of the high cruising altitude and an efficient diesel engine (Audi 3.0L TDI has a BSFC of as little as 199...

We'll see whether or not it actually hits its numbers in due time. They're posting regular blog updates every few days, and things are definitely moving along. Aside from price targets, I'm worried about pressurization, because if they can't pressurize it then you can't comfortably fly at high...
