1. Part swaps

Unfortunately, that's well beyond my skill set. I found a guy that had a rudder post for sale (2024 T3, 56", for a vp 2) I hope it's in good condition. I've had no luck finding the right spec from a metal dealer.
2. Part swaps

I'm curious if fiberglass or carbon fiber tubes can be substituted for aluminum tubes, for spars or rudder posts, or other structural parts. It seems like the tensile strength can be comparable, but I don't know about other considerations like bending loads, etc.
3. VP1 rudder question

I checked Wicks and Aircraft spruce and Airpartsinc, and I can't find the rudder tube for a VP1. The plans (p.51) calls for 2" diameter x .058 x 55" 2024-T3 aluminum tube. Nobody seems to have it in their online catalogs...Are people substituting, or am I missing a source?
4. Aerobatic Tandem Two-Seater

What's he asking for the RV4?
5. $10 gallon Avgas 100% with you, for what you do with your aircraft. I'm just thinking we'll see an alternative to leaded fuel sooner rather than later. It might even be electricity! 6. $10 gallon Avgas

Well, the cam change is to increase the duration of the valves opening, right? And the compression ratio typically is lower in flight engines, yes? I don't know about the timing curve's effect, but 87 octane E10 gets burned in a tremendous variety of engines, from turbo 4's with relatively high...
7. $10 gallon Avgas And Premium E10 is rated at 93 octane. 8. $10 gallon Avgas

Finding E free 93 anywhere is problematic. In the KC metro area, you can get E free 91 octane in several spots. Corvairs were designed for 87 octane weren't they? Clark's corvair says they'll do fine on ethanol blends too. Not sure about the rest of the fuel system (no fiberglass tanks!)...
9. Are there plans for a scratch builable amphibious aircraft

I haven't paid too much attention to amphibious aircraft, but now I'm curious. Is there some norm for the amount of travel allowed for by landing gear on amphibians? Is it different than for SEL aircraft? Other than meeting the spec for prop clearance and the amount needed for the weight of the...
10. \$10 gallon Avgas

I hear you. If you have the right airframe/engine combo, you can pay hundreds of dollars for the ability to use mogas, and get the lead out. Or track down some UL93.
11. Magnus effect / Flettner wing etc.

Sure, if you have your groceries delivered, and your doctor makes house calls, I think that's fine. The pandemic has shown how easy it is to get home delivery of just about anything, and Teladoc is available now.
12. Magnus effect / Flettner wing etc.

There is one area where I think the autonomous personal flyer makes sense, much like in driverless cars, is the ability to maintain the personal autonomy of an aging population. One of the big problems in driving cars in the safety bell curve. Young inexperienced drivers, and older, skills...
13. Need a helping hand on the West coast

Did a little digging to try to figure out the weight on my big boat trailer. The closest I found is a landscaping trailer from tractor supply. They list it at 1500 pounds, but mine doesn't have a wood bed, just a wood keel support. and welded on adjustable height hull supports. I could cut off...
14. Single Tube Fuselage idea

That's a really elegant idea. Would it have to be round tube? Wouldn't square tube allow some more secure attachment points for motor and gear and such? Bending square tube has it's own challenges, but I like having flat surfaces to rivet things to.
15. Need a helping hand on the West coast

That's pure genius! I've been out to Liberty Landing talking to a Hummel builder, but there weren't any Dawn Patrol folks there at the time. I got a hangar tour though, which is what put the bug in my head to get a Baslee design. I'll reach out and see what can be worked out.
