I have wood where the grain is all going one way. It is a really thin sheet, and I want to cut it into narrow strips along the grain. If I put a ruler down and trace with a razor blade, the blade has a mind of its own and sometimes follows the grain instead of the ruler. I know, cut in a direction so the grain will guide the razor into the ruler. That works with enough force on the rule, but sometimes it pulls the ruler.
Should I just push down on the ruler more and do many ligher strokes with the razor, or is there a better way? I know a power blade might not care about the grain, but it would have a wide path and maybe tear the wood up.
I read about this in a wood guide once. It just proved to be a bit trickier to actually do it. The wood does have a good enough compression strength perpendicular to the grain, so I guess I won't hurt it by pressing that ruler down a lot harder.
