I was wondering if plywood (grain at 45degrees to the length of the spar) could be used for the spar caps? Would the wood be strong enough at 45 degrees or is the wood significantly weakened? How would this compare to normal solid spruce caps? One advantage with the plywood is that it would simplify the need for scarf joints.
