Greetings,
I've seen a few ultralight designs that seem to have a lot of variation in empty weight that I can't explain. I actually had an Airbike (N-numbered) that was 350 lbs, and I could never figure out where that extra 100 lbs came from.
If you take a set of wood wings like the TEAM aircraft, how much variation could there be between the lightest and heaviest examples? I imagine wood selection is likely the main variation, but also the amount of epoxy, varnish, and of course paint would make a difference. I just don't know if we're talking 5 lbs difference per wing, or 50 lbs?
