I stumbled across a couple of references to these in the boatbuilding world and was able to track down the details on these 3M products, though other manufacturers make them as well.

I could see using them as a replacement for routed plywood wing and tail ribs, for example, and the lower density would allow thicker ribs at no weight penalty, providing more surface area for gluing to the spar and for attaching fabric or other covering.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of fiberglass-reinforced foam panel?
