How do you make a choice between engines on something like an Avenger V or Minimax Eros? Certainly the manufacturer has recommendations (FFP recommends great plains 1/2 vws and Minimax wants to sell you a 72hp hummel), but how do I become educated enough to know if something like the AeroVee could also be used? Seems to have a similar dry weight, but makes more horsepower?

Should a first time builder with little engineering knowledge stray from the mfgr recommendations?
