cutting down the wing span

hi is there any way to predict what happen if I cut the wing span by one bay ,should I cut it at the root or at the tip ,we are talking about new construction ,the wing have not been started yet ,the wood wings are same as on minimax , the only reason for me to do that is the local weather ,it gets windy all the time and it might be easier to handle with the shorter wings ,I saw the airdrome aeroplanes offer the dream classic in two different wingspans 30' and 21' ,thank you
