Built by Ian Davis, Pikes Point, Auckland, New Zealand.
First flew approx 2000-2001.
Given to Andrew Carter, Galatea after Ian was in a fatal accident.
Purchased Peter Kirby (me), Hamilton New Zealand 5th Aug 2023 for restoration
ZK-JMO had reportedly done approx 40 hours according to Andrew.
First flew with a Yamaha 2-stroke but suffered a loss of prob/engine fail and hard landing Jan 2004 with some damage
. I have found a photo of it 2005 in flying condition so I guess he repaired it.
New engine built by Ian of unknown size. 2-cylinder VW full-case. Hand-carved prop.
There's no logbook so restoration will include a new registration as needed.
Initial issues - the VW is the "great unkown" and is a full-case 2-cylinder of unknown capacity. Yet to assess.
I've very short legs... 5'7" but I'd be 6'2" if the legs were in proportion lol, so I need to re-assess the seating position in preference to moving the pedals.
The important thing with this project is there's no rush. There's living, working, holidaying and flying to do.
