Word has it over here that the L-23 is about to follow the L-13 into ultra-expensive, might-as-well-scrap-it AD-land, based on the idea that their spars are virtually identical. Heard anything about that over there?

Don't have any experience with the L23 Topaz but there was a life extension mod to 12000 hours, approved on the L13 spars by the Gliding Federation of Australia, as most of the Blaniks over here have lots of hours. You can tell which ones have it by the cherry rivets in the bottom spar root. They are still the club workhorse in most Australian clubs. I've spent many an hour in the back of Blaniks watching students assassinate thermals.

Here are the mods http://2009.gfa.org.au/Docs/airworth/exemption_CASA_10-14335.pdf
or alternatively appendix c here https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&...WFpbnxibGFuaWtzcGFyfGd4OmQ1MDJhODlhMGRhZjFiOQ
Sorry for hijacking your post Cozyflyer
