Re: Second Chanttz - back in business

    Hi

I was wondering if any one has had any recent dealings with John Dunham Second Chantz Parachutes. I think I'v been taken. I talked on the phone with Dunham and conversed with e-mails while working out what I wanted done with my 1991 second chantz parachute. He was going to put my chute in a new canister with his nitrogen delivery system, everything seemed to be on the up and up. I couldn't find anything negative on line so I packed up my chute and shipped it along with $1500.00 US to have the work done. He replied back he had the chute and that the check had cleared. I haven't heard from him since. Doesn't answer phone or emails.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

How many builders use chutes? Just wondering

All airplane recovery systems are popular on ultralights, but diminish in popularity as speeds and weights increase. Currently the largest Ballistic Recovery System is certified on the Cirrus 22 which carries 4 people and cruises at 200 knots.
Cirrus is currently testing a chute that will recover the heavier and faster Cirrus Jet.
BRS also holds STCs to install their systems in acres a 172 and 182.
BRS weigh almost the same as individual personal parachutes. They vastly simplify emergency procedures. If you plan to wear a chute during every flight, you are better to install a BRS.
    BRS currently dominates the market.
A couple of Russian designs compete in the same market.
I do not know how many Second Chantz are currently flying.

Re: Second Chanttz - back in business

Up date on Second Chantz Parachutes. Still no response from Dunham.

I contacted the BBB (Better Business Bureau) of Carson City they are looking into the matter. I didn't think they did this type of thing but they do.

I also contacted the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) and filed a report with them which is now on file under John A Dunham Second Chantz Parachutes. The RCMP also contacted Carson City Sheriff Dept. and although they wouldn't give out a whole bunch if information they did say Dunham was known to them. Since the cheque was cashed in Carson City I will have to file the complaint there.

I don't mind going to Carson City since I have never been there, it's just one more thing I can cross off my bucket list.

I am also going to contact the US Postal Authority, apparently they do not take kindly to mail fraud.

ANYONE THINKING OF DOING ANY BUSINESS WITH JOHN A DUNHAM SECOND CHANTZ PARACHUTES DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. HIS WEB SITE IS ONLY THERE TO DEFRAUD PEOPLE.
