A buddy and I are building an airboat using a salvaged 900cc 98HP kawasaki PWC engine. The output shaft is only 7/8-1" diameter and 1" long and I'm concerned about putting the tension (~850#)required of a timing belt reduction system on a shaft that small. I am hoping that the rotax crank is a similar dia and it routinely supports these same loads. I plan to use a 36mm belt so there will not be much hanging off the end of the shaft. I am also strongly considering having a sleeve machine of a larger 1-3/4" OD that will tread onto the existing drive shaft and the pulley will clamp down on the sleeve.

Thanks in advance for any help
