Does anyone know about tubular rivets such as were used on the fuselage truss joints of 1930's Hawker products like the Hurricane and Fury/Hart series aircraft? I think that these were full tubular rivets made from lengths of mild steel tubing and clinched with a special tool which I assume would have extended all the way through the rivet to give it support against buckling (accordion-ing) since the rivet would extend entirely through both sides of the tube (with a spacer inside the tube) and be comparatively long. Would this info be in the mechnical engineering handbook? Is there a book specializing in this subject?

P.S. I did a search.
