Hi All:
Just planning a Pietenpol build and and needing the lightest airframe I can get due to my size (6'4" and 250 lbs).
Can anyone tell me the difference in weight between steel tubed builds and wood builds? I know steel tube is lighter, but since I would have to some welding and I need to learn that skill, I'd rather build in wood. However, if it is something on the order of 75 pounds or more, the savings would be well worth the trouble learning/finding a helper that welds.
Not looking for specific weight of a piet fuse in steel vs wood, but that would be great too! ) Just on average, how much lighter IS 4130 steel verses the same length in 1" x 1" spruce?
