Has anyone come up with a good substitute for wood in the ribs, spars etc (besides aluminum)

I know there are a lot of composites out there, but has anyone used something to directly build up a spar/ rib etc looking just like original except made out of carbon fiber etc.

I think it would be neat to build up a set of wings for my acey deucy out of something so they look original internally except they are out of some space age material and a lot lighter.
