Need-to-build

I need to build some ribs, I do not want to destroy the plans. Can I photo-copy the rib drawing and just cut it out and use that as a template? When I was in A & P school an instructor told us that by doing that, the copy would be smaller then the actual drawing. I have talked to some photo copy technicians and they claim it's not true. Has anyone tried this method before?
