looking over several threads on spoilers and glide path control I have come up with critical questions concerning my design......Is the Woodstock spoilers really drag brakes?

If they are drag brakes,.....do drag brakes un-load the wing and require beef up of the spar? Any idea how much spring (lbs) would be required to hold these down or does boxing in the bottom of the spoiler/drag brake enough to keep them down and a small spring is all that is needed.
