As far as designing an aircraft, is there a general/basic step by step "flow chart" type diagram/list that a designer/amateur builder would go by that leads from idea to conception.

Adding to the above, which part of the plane should be designed first? I know it is a broad question, just wanting to know where the designer/builder starts first.
