All,
I am in the beginning stages of a niche design but before I embark, I want to make sure there isn't something close enough that can meet some of the requirements. In an attempt to increase the Vne of the Longeze/Varieze class aircraft, I thought one could perhaps build the fuselage out of a truss chromoly configuration and corver it with Carbon Fiber skins. Also, my thought is to use a conventional wing but with ruddervators thereby doing away with the a canard all together. This will also allow for the use of flaps which will help reduce approach speeds. Proposed engine will be a Lycoming IO-360 or a O-540. Still working on a possible turbine option. A mere calculation shows my proposed setup to be considerably heavier than the conventional foam/fiberglass rutan style layup. But the tradeoff would be a crash worthy fuselage that has room for increased Vne testing should the turbine engine pan out.
For the wings, I plan to use similar setup as the Berkut wings. I haven't decided on suitable airfoil just yet.
Would appreciate suggestion or recommendations on similar designs that might meet this need. Also, feel free to point out the error in my ways!
Thanks
