Okay it's a stretch... and may be my meds... but why not design a survival pod that will work in any homebuilt aircraft...(Fritz has a computer... he could design it :) So it would be very lightweight but would put the pilot in a sort of bubble and could be inflated in case of trouble... like in an engine out scenario where you have to put it down on a plowed field... the plane is a wreck but the pilot climbs out of the womb like structure... happy as teenager on a first date...
