    Interesting thread – just what I’d suspected but been afraid to say out loud. I’m sitting here watching airliners take off from DCA (about 750-1000 AGL -- high overcast; 3:00pm) and although if I squint and really crank up my imagination I can see the strobes – the only thing that is reasonably visible is the landing light. The most visible “object” is the plane itself.

    What is really needed is your head on a swivel looking for other aircraft; especially in a high traffic area.

    Have been crusin around the Internet and now this thread makes sense. A number of people seem to believe the McKinney TX midair could be prevented if people would have strobe lights installed and turn them on. Once that's stated as a fact everybody is on board and you just chastise those that argue to the contrary.

    What about strobes 1/2 hour before sunset on a cloudy day in the winter?

    They weii help me locate the airplane or tower that they are attached to at a distance.
