Geoff Braddock flew his EJ257 powered RV8 on Dec. 27th in Australia

Empty weight was 1187lbs. He's using an Autoflight H6 300 gearbox with 1.95 ratio and an IVO 68 inch in-flight adjustable prop.

A few initial numbers: 2500fpm climb at 90 knots with full fuel running 5500 rpm and about 44 inches. Cruise at 4500 MSL, 4500rpm and unspecified MAP was 170 KTAS.

The under wing rads look great and are cooling very well even in +35C conditions. Geoff did a great job on the whole installation- all custom made by him. Bravo!

Any place where we can see the guts of the installation?

What sort of HP would you roughly estimate it's got Ross?

And importantly, thermostat or no thermostat?

Judging from the climb performance compared to other RVs of similar weight, I'd guess hp at around 215-225 at 44 inches/5500 rpm.

I'm only guessing, it probably runs a thermostat- those crazy Aussies...

    Very cool

I'll bet he picks up a couple knots once he gets the gear faired...

It worked for me, here's a new link: http://s1277.photobucket.com/user/RV8Turbo/library/

I expect he'll be seeing 190-200 KTAS cruise at medium altitudes with the gear fairings on. This is the third turbo STi powered RV to fly and the others have done similar numbers. The silver aircraft in my avatar is an STi powered RV7.

    Re: Turbo Subaru RV8

    Thanks for the updated link.

That installation looks very nice, and also looks like quite a bit more work than going with the standard Lycoming.

Looking forward to more flight performance data.
