I've been comparing three engines, and have some confusion about the numbers that matter, and how props figure into the equation. If someone could enlighten me, it would be much appreciated.

Rotax 503
Max Power : 49.3 HP @ 6500 RPM
Max Continuous Power: ?
Max Torgue: 41.3 lb ft @ 6000 RPM
Max RPM: 6800
Weight 95-113 lbs, depends on gearbox and electric start.

Verner 3VW
Max Power : 42 HP @ 2500 RPM
Max Continuous Power: 34 HP @ 2200 RPM
Max Torgue: 90 lb ft at 2100 RPM
Weight 73 lbs, with alternator, without electric start.

Hummel 1/2 VW
Max Power: 45HP @ ?
Max Continuous Power: Less than 45 HP
Max Torque: ?
Max RPM: ?
Weight: 84-102 lbs.

How do I compare these engines? Will the Verner's torque make it perform better than the Rotax? Does the VW beat the Verner?

I understand that the 503 will spin the prop slower with the gearbox, but will it multiply the torque to perform better than the Verner? Does the higher HP vs. the Verner work out to mean anything? I'm guessing the VW spins at a higher RPM than the Verner, necessitating a smaller prop, does this mean the Verner should perform better or worse?
