    Another dumb noob question...

Has anyone tried coating a particularly critical load-bearing structure (like, say, a wing spar) with this Line-X coating?

    https://youtu.be/30Q4HK7wcJE

    Weight penalty?
    Benefit/deficit ratio?

Apologies if this has been asked/discussed before.

It's been suggested that fuel tanks might benefit from an external coating of LineX.

Everything I post is just my misguided personal opinion !

    Just the fuel tanks?
    Nothing else?

I see they tried this. They made one mistake by only coating one side of the car panels. I would coat all sides by taking the car apart and then putting it back together.

.... which is what I basically postulated in the OP.

The videos basically show plastic cups with a coating of 1-2mm.
    Has anyone done the numbers?

My thinking is that you could use a very light material (e.g. Styrofoam) and coat it with this tuff.
it would be good if someone could give it a try and then apply loads to test the potential.

There you go...I've never trusted the idea of foam-only wing ribs, but coat them or make them out of this stuff and...

LineEx would be most valuable to bush pilots, cargo pilots and crop dusters who routinely land on gravel strips. LineEx could protect high-wear areas like door frames and cargo floors. LineEx could also reduce rock chip damage to the undersides.

We used it for edge trim on the 214 huey seat and thin plywood floor liners - it lasts and lasts , thinking on using it for fuel system (aluminum & nylon cloth tanks) great stuff

    Re: Another dumb noob question...

    Looks like amazing stuff, but...

Is it fuel-proof and alcohol-proof? What is the longevity of the stuff? Does it harden or get brittle with age?

In regard to using it on a spar, the spar should already be designed to handle all normal loads. If you need this stuff to supplement the spar, then you will need to know the materials properties before you can properly calculate its application and effect. Once on, how do you inspect the spar or do repairs on the spar?
