Re: Conti 65 and Lycoming 0-145 65 hp engines

I'm cheap...and almost a grand for an hour is a bit much for dual. Also, a local friend has a T-6....I will offer fuel $$ and see if I can get a ride. Hoping the Chief owner will give me an answer this week as well, so holding onto $$ to try to snag it. That grand will go much further in my eyes if it helps me get back in the air. As the old saying goes, "Money makes the plane go up..." Besides, my wife has enough clothes......!

Re: Conti 65 and Lycoming 0-145 65 hp engines

Got the engines (finally). The Conti looks great....tomorrow I will get the bores cope and get some shots of the guts. The Lycoming is nice, some extra parts, and the owner said that he had inspected it and found that it was a low hour engine. Will have photos tomorrow. Of the 3 Conti cranks he has, one is stock (flange) and unground, one will have to be ground down to .015 or .020, will see if I can get a cost estimate from Piedmont. The second crank that will need to be ground is a taper shaft. The third turns out to have a slight flange crank, so only good for an airboat, etc. The owner said "best offer" on the cranks. He started out at some of the ridiculous prices on the Internet, so I finally got him to go with looking at offers. I will mike the journals and post the results on both cranks. Please email or PM any questions.

OK, the conti looks good...has the card, logs, etc. It is for sale. The Lycoming will need to be rebuilt, it has all the parts, the A&P that owned it did pull the heads to check the cylinders, but I would recommend doing a full rebuild. Just for security's sake. It is the later B2 engine.

Well, it looks like I am changing direction (again). I am going to put the A65 Conti up for sale. With mags, logs and carb. Email or PM me for photos or with specific questions. Couple of hundred hours before hitting rebuild. Came out of a T crate. Original owner is an A&P, so it has been well treated.
