Talking about a pusher design.

The cockpit area has to be about 2 feet wide.

A typical engine, VW for example, is about 2.5 feet wide.

Is it a good idea to have a narrow fuselage at the front, gradually increasing towards the rear? (I like the looks of this in XFLR5.) Or would it be better to have it all the same width?

I would guess having the whole thing only 2 feet wide and suddenly widen for the engine (or having the cylinders stick out) would be worse?
