Just what is this? The Oswald Efficiency Factor, or something else?

In my virtual flight testing, if I have the wing and pod separated, like a parasol, I get numbers around 0.850 or so. But if I allow the wing and pod to intersect, like a high wing or mid wing, the efficiency number drops down as low as 0.450. The best I've got with a mid wing was about 0.750.

What are the implications of that number for "real" flight? I assume bigger is better, but how trustworthy is the number in XFLR5 when you have a body/pod defined?
