I am getting mixed answers online.
In Prandtl multiwing induced drag theory, the conclusion is that the drag decreases with the gap. So the gap should be maximized

In the paper "EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF A BI-PLANEMICRO AIR VEHICLE", they come to the conclusion that the drag increases as the gap increases. So the gap should be optimized.

Could someone explain which one is true or what I am not understanding?
Thank you
