As I'm planning on an electrically-dependent aircraft (EFI and glass), being able to hook up to ground power for charging and avionics work is something I want to incorporate. But rather than use aviation-standard ground power input, I'm thinking about buying something like this: 13.2V (12V) 50A power supply for running car audio from AC power supply, universal AC input, fully isolated

I could pigtail a standard cord plug to one end and a high-current molex on the other end, put a selector switch in place, and power either bus at almost full capacity off a regular extension cord. And at 4lb or so, it's something I could throw in the airplane and take on a trip without unduly impacting payload. I could even just build it into the airplane if I so felt like it.

And no, this is not a debate on whether airplanes should have electrical systems or how they're designed. I've made my choice for my own reasons.
